Setting Priorities for Godly Marriages and Families

Making the changes needing to be made!

Paul J. Bucknell

Purpose: Godly marriages and families don’t come by accident! Couples need to learn WHAT kind of marriage they are seeking and HOW to form priorities to gain those godly families. A Biblical Perspective: 1 Timothy 6:9-12: Part 5/9 of Setting Priorities for Godly Marriages

A Biblical Perspective: 1 Timothy 6:9-12

But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang.

But flee from these things, you man of God; and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
(1 Timothy 6:9-12).

These worldly values end up steering your life, pushing and tugging at you until you finally give in. These priorities are worldly thoughts and will guide how you make decisions where to live, living separate places from your spouse, sending your child off to others, be too busy to be intimate or make you accept inferior marriages as being typical. You are willing to compromise on your marriage and family because you believe these other things are more important. Your have a set of false priorities that are rather worldly rather than being godly. For example, you know your marriage is important but cannot seem to change your set of priorities.

Notice the worldly values, priorities and pain! Also notice how the apostle warns us to detect and reject those worldly values from which poor priorities are developed. Instead we are to adopt and fiercely fight to hold to the good values and priorities. “Fight the good fight of faith!”
