Purpose: Trust is Faith in God’s Faithfulness provides a introductory biblical word study and explanation of the word faithfulness and what it means when related to God's faithfulness.

Trust is faith in God’s faithfulness

God’s faithfulness is dependent on the certainty of His accomplishing what He has promised. The Hebrew verb, ‘amen’, can refer to the steady hands of a parent who carries his child (TWOT#116) and can be translated as truth or faithful.

As a God of revelation, we are totally dependent on the words and pictures that He reveals to us. They are totally reliable. The evil one, therefore, attempts to foil our trust in the certainty of His faithfulness to His Word.

Trust depends on our belief in both God’s power and His purpose.



“For the word of the LORD is upright; And all His work is done in faithfulness” (Ps 33:4).

(1) His power enables us to believe it can and will be done. Nothing can stop it. Often when we doubt God, we question whether He can do it. We would not say that, as we know many scriptures that teach us the truth, but our doubts betray a lack of belief.

(2) Trust is dependent upon believing that it is God’s purpose to carry out some matter. With all the power in the world, this does not mean God will do anything about it. Only when God promises us, are we able to understand His purposes.

Once we know God purposes to do something, then we can, like David waiting for his promised kingship, can patiently accept God’s timing for some matter. It is not ‘if it will happen’ but ‘when it will happen.’

“And My faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him, And in My name his horn will be exalted.” (Ps 89:24).

God’s Word tremendously helps us in both respects. It assures us of God’s power and what He plans to do with regards those who are His children.

How do we become faithful?

As observed above, we are expected to become faithful. This is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. The problem, however, is greatly heightened by our inability to accomplish what we want or say.

Our surrounding situations often become more influential than what we spiritually can see.



For us to become faithful, several things need to happen in our lives. Let us assume that it is not God that has to change but us. The problem of unfaithfulness in our society is rampant, not only in marriages, but in lying and the many empty promises made.

A person says he will do something but does no such thing. Even worse, it is not even his circumstances pressuring him otherwise. He never planned to do what he said!
