Purpose: God is exalted. This article explores the various means God is exalted high above. We just might be surprised at the various means that God is exalted.
Don’t be mistaken.
Even though we neglect giving God His glory, He still is fully exalted–even if it be through our dull hearts and disobedient lives.
“The LORD is high above all nations; His glory is above the heavens” (Ps 113:4). We cannot diminish His glorious person and ways.
In Ephesians 2:4-7, we actually see that God further glorified Himself by kindly treating the most deadened and hostile people. His glory floats high above all the evil below.
God in no way ‘needs’ our attention and glory. He desires that we can share in His best by recognizing His glorious person.
The heathen are those who reject the general revelation of God and live without due respect to the splendor of God. One day, to their great consternation, they will discover that God is even glorified through the hardness of their hearts. Two great scriptural scenarios depict this: Pharaoh's hardness and the enemies of God in the Book of Revelation.
Hardness of Pharaoh’s heart: “Still you (Pharaoh) exalt yourself against My people by not letting them go” (Ex 9:17).
If we do not exalt God and His ways, then we necessarily exalt our knowledge, will and desires against God. Our sin is never ‘small’ as it becomes a warfare against God.
“Men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues, and they did not repent so as to give Him glory” (Revelation 16:9).
“Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.” (Jude 14,15).
Being on God’s side. In the end, we are either for or against the Lord. Because of Pharaoh’s defeat, exaltation was lifted up to the Lord.
“Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the LORD, and said, “I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted; The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea” (Ex 15:1).
“And Miriam answered them, “Sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted; The horse and his rider He has hurled into the sea” (Ex 15:21).
We exalt Him by deliberately recognizing and praising His glorious person.
We exalt Him by our lives in the way we affirm His good ways by choosing to live for them.
