For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, (2 Corinthians 10:3-5, NASB).

We must realize that if 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 accurately describes the battle scene, there is simply no neutral ground! There is no way to avoid the effect of either side. You cannot just watch!
And honestly, if you are not consciously fighting, then it shows you have given in to deception. If the light is not shining, what happens to that area? It is dark.
If we do nothing, we will naturally play into the evil one's hand. Jesus said of the Jewish leaders, "You are of your father..." This means that they share their father's nature. Like father, like son. Read these following verses carefully.
"You are of your father the devil,
and you want to do the desires of your father.
He ... does not stand in the truth,
because there is no truth in him.
Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature;
for he is a liar, and the father of lies."
(John 8:44)
From the beginning the evil one used lies to snare people onto his side. The world is just full of these lies. The lies persuade us to do things that do not please God. In whatever area of our life that our thoughts and behavior comes short of God, we can be sure that we have listened to the lies of the evil one.
Spiritual disciplines like praying, Bible reading and meditation, fasting, attending church, etc. all enable us to keep fixed on truth. Without them, we are more susceptible to Satan's lies even as God's people.
Let's now more clearly examine this first truth. Next page
