Purpose: Three Assumptions For a Fruitful Life identify three not often thought of basic beliefs from John 15:6 necessary for abiding in Christ.This is part of a greater series on Abiding in Jesus.

Three assumptions associated with living a fruitful life.

Much can be said about the way a believer's lives out a fulfilled life, but here are three assumptions that stand behind John 15:6 that are helpful to keep in mind as we further discuss John 15.

“If anyone does not abide in me, he is thrown away as a branch, and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned” (John 15:6).

Some decisions are better than others.

Some decisions are better than others. Better decisions lead to a more fruitful life while decisions from poor judgment lead to difficult consequences. Our decisions can be right or wrong, better or worse. This is evident from the decision Jesus warned us from making, “If anyone does not abide in me, he is thrown away..."

People are accountable.

People are accountable to make the most of their time, situation and gifts. They are, in other words, accountable for what decisions and choices they make. Jesus says when a person chooses not to abide in Him, then they ar burned. Our will is involved in our choices. We cannot say in the end, "I didn't know."

Success is completing God's will.

People will not be judged on whether they have reached their goals in life but on whether they have fulfilled God’s will for their lives. We must refuse to believe that personal success can obtained apart from doing the will of God. Success is getting God’s will done. Although this success is not spoken of here, it is in most verses in this section. This comes from abiding in Christ. We must abide in Him in order to accomplish God's will.

The world’s message is that if we are a Christian, then we will have drably sad lives. Christ gives us no such image.

We need to look at these doubts that Satan throws our way by way of the mass media and challenge them one by one. Otherwise, we will live in response to these doubts and our faith will not be strong. Let me provide a simple test for you.

Would you tell others about how great it is to believe in Jesus?
