Many people gauge success by how many people are ‘under’ them, that is, by how many people work for them. The world looks up to these business leaders.
Jesus shook the world’s assumptions by declaring that fulfillment in life comes through serving others rather than being served. In the spirit of God’s love, Christ, the Servant Leader, perfectly modeled excellent service.
For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it (Luke 9:24).
Jesus served well. A master or boss gives commands, sets the agenda and tells his workers how to fulfill his directions. Jesus Christ discerned His Father’s will, denied His personal preferences and purposed to do what was asked of Him. Jesus as a good servant was rewarded for His rigorous labor.
Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which above ever name ... to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11)
A servant seeks to please his master. In order to properly fulfill his master’s needs and wishes, the slave must give up all his own rights and purposes.
