If we question the relevancy of God's Word, it is often because His Word is having little or no affect on our lives. Down deep we wonder if it is all true. There are two issues we need to address. They both have the same root problem.
What impact does God's Word have on your lives? |
|||||
God's Word is hidden from the life of a skeptic. They don't believe God or the scriptures. Their desire to keep living out their lives of sin give them extra motivation for keeping truth out.
The skeptic comes up with a lot of questions, but they are designed to keep the truth from them. The question a skeptic needs to honestly ask him or herself is: Do you really want God to get involved in your life? |
God's Word is hidden from the heart of the doubter. These Christians have lost their confidence in the scriptures. They are busy with life, making money, making friends, their boyfriend, etc.
God's Word does not seem relevant to them. Their lack of faith keeps Gods Word in its sheath. They need to ask a question of themselves: Have I really put God's Word in my heart? |
What symbol does the Bible use to speak of the relevance and power of Gods truth?
That's right. A sword.
The scriptures uses the word 'sword' to describe God's Word. But perhaps, if we were honest, many of us treat the Word of God more as a pillow. But frankly, and this ought to be obvious, we don't take pillows to fight a war - except for pillow fights! We take swords. My brother and I had fights when we were smaller. We would start off with words and progress to fists, legs, and other things like books. Because our bedroom was in the basement of a large old house, we soon went on to big and better things! Once he grabbed a stick. Holding a book no longer worked for me! We even got objects 5-6 feet long. But something changed when my brother reached high school. He had a selection of machetes. They are long knives used for slashing thick tropical forests. When he came back with one of his long 3 foot blades, I knew then he won the fight! I scooted off to see what Mom was doing upstairs. I thank the Lord we never managed to hurt each other. When the sword is taken out of its sheath, those around know something is going to happen. When Gods Word is unleashed in our hearts, then there are remarkable experiences with God Himself.

Knowing about God's Word and its reliability is one important matter, but one also needs to know how to meet God in the scriptures.
