Overcome Anxiety: Finding Peace, Discovering GodA Different Perspective

Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:15-17).
Our city has been reconstructing a number of main roads, bridges and tunnels. Just travel by and you can appreciate the fantastic work they are doing in repairing the roads. We might fuss about the traffic, endless detour routes, but what would you choose?

detour signOne road travels along the top of a 70 foot cliff. A weakness has been discovered in the road structure that at times edges over the cliffs. Is it best to block off the road, spend lots of money and inconvenience thousands of drivers so the road can be properly repaired?

Overcome Anxiety: Finding Peace, Discovering GodOr is it better to keep using the road. Maybe they could lower the speed limit and put up some signs, "Travel at your own risk."

Most people will agree they rather put up with the cost and temporary inconvenience rather than facing perpetual untrustworthiness.

How will they fix it? They will take down the parts without proper support and put in new supports. Then they will build anew on top of those founational structures. God fortunately does the same with our lives.

The world has put its trust in the very things that will fail. Reliability can be applied only to the things that endure. Our worries are already revealing the shaky foundations of the things we are trusting in. Don't you think it is time to work with God and let Him take down those unreliable things you have been trusting in. Listen to God's perspective.

And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:17).

"For He has brought low those who dwell on high, the unassailable city; He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust. ..." Isaiah 26:5-6

"And they heal the brokenness of the daughter of My people superficially, Saying, 'Peace, peace,' But there is no peace. (Jeremiah 8:11).

We know there is a cost to serious road repair. The same is true with our hearts.

We know what is best to do.

Will we do it?

Will you do it?

We normally avoid thinking about worry.
We don't want to admit to the fear of defeat. We avoid it like the plague. But destruction of false hopes is good if it happens before our death. All of these things that we trust in apart from God will one day fail us anyway. If they fail us now, we still have time to rebuild that which does not perish.

Rebuilding
Only the destruction of those false hopes will cause us to reanalyze our situation. We then have two possibilities:

  • 1) We might latch onto another unreliable hope.

  • 2) We will put our trust in His care for us.

When God speaks of destruction, all those things we trust in will eventually become liabilities rather than assets. It behooves us to start examining our hearts. What are those things that we really put our trust in? The wise King David did this. Listen to him.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way. (Psalms 139:24).

Out of the dust of brokenness, we see our broken idols.
The God of Peace is welcoming us to restore
the trust in Him
that we were designed to have.
