Paul J. Bucknell
The closer we look at the world, the more we see God’s glory. This is ever so clear about learning of God’s love from a beautiful marriage. Of course, we do not expect to see God’s perfect love radiated there, and yet there are sufficient number of patterns, expectations, and power, which reflect their true nature in heaven. In this sense, Song of Solomon is a parable like many of the proverbs or NT analogies. We look at something common with which we can identify with and learn a most marvelous truth. Only fools observe the glory of the beauty in the earthly love relationship without being further enlightened of God’s great love for us.
Some commentators get carried away with the sexual innuendos while others carry on with the high fluting spiritual analogies. But we should expect God’s truth to reflect itself both in earthly and spiritual truths. This is what we find in love. The love which begins with courtships, consummates itself in marriage and fulfills itself by persevering through the time and obstacles of marriage well maps out for us our journey in experiencing God’s great love for us.
