Psalm 36:5-6 Intro | Psalm 36:1-4 | Psalm 36:7-12
Part 1 below
This discussion begins by focusing on Psalm 36:5-6 and later in parts 2 and 3 target the only passages.
Psalms 36:5-6, NASB
"Thy lovingkindness, O LORD, extends to the heavens, Thy faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Thy righteousness is like the mountains of God;
Thy judgments are like a great deep.O LORD, Thou preservest man and beast."
A couple of nights ago my daughter brought home an Indiana Jones and the Raider's of the Lost Ark movie from the library. I had some questions about the horrible visual scenes there, but my wife, two older daughters and I sat down and watched it together. There was some laughter, much excitement and an excessive amount of violent scenes.
But I just dismissed it, that is, until this morning when I read Psalm 36.
After I read the Psalm, I prayed through its major thoughts, or at least I tried. I could go through verses 1-4, but when I tried entering the next section starting in verse 5 (see above), I was kicked back to the first section.
Psalm 36:5 begins by describing God's glorious person. The first section writes about the evildoers.
The Holy Spirit was acting like an airport's metal detector but instead of checking luggage, He was examining my heart. I sensed it was the Indiana Jones movie causing the problem. But instead of openly acknowledging it and sending it to the Examiner, I ignored my conscience.
Several times I attempted tomeditate on those great verses about God. Each time I was thrown back to the prior section for another check. I finally decided I had better deal with the doubt that I had tucked away in the corner of my heart. I asked Him what He didn't approve of. He cautioned me on five items.
