Introduction Romans 2:1-4

  1. In 1:18-32, who is Paul talking about? What pronoun is used?


  2. Beginning in chapter 2 who does Paul start talking to? What pronoun is used here? Who does this pronoun refer to?

Romans 2:5-11

  1. What are these people doing (Romans 2:1)?


  2. How does it differ from those approving in Romans 1:32?


  3. What kind of judging is being exposed and condemned (Romans 2:3)?


  4. According to these verses, is all judging wrong? (Compare with James 4)


  5. Paul gives one or two ways these men might think about God. Name them (Romans 2:3-4).


  6. Personal question: “Do I look at other people’s sins with condemnation thinking I am not like them? If so, we need to be careful. Can you think of any examples?


Romans 2:5-11

  1. In verse 5, what does Paul say that is happening to those previously mentioned (Romans 2:5)?

  2. What is the difference between Christian and non-Christian?

  3. What general principle is stated in this verse (Romans 2:6)?

  4. What two final outcomes are mentioned (Romans 2:7-11)?

  5. In 2:7 what characterized those gaining eternal life?

  6. Does Paul mention how they get eternal life or just describe those having eternal life? Why?

  7. Remember what problem Paul was trying to correct (see 2:1). What was it?

  8. Does this thought confirm or change your answer to the last question?

  9. In Romans2:8, what characterized those receiving wrath and indignation?

  10. Can any person because of a special relationship with God escape these blessings or curses? Why or why not?

Bonus questions on Romans 2:1-11

  1. The Roman church had these ‘hypocrites.’ (2:1-4) Do you think our churches have them too?


  2. Based on these 2:5-11, is Paul more concerned with what one says or how one lives? How do you think God will deal with those who do what they condemn in others in the church?

  3. What can you say to a person who says he stays out of church because hypocrites go there?



  4. Does a man need to hear the gospel before He can be condemned?
