The Bible Teacher's Commentary
1. Who is the author of Romans? Think about his background described in Acts or in a map in the back of your Bible.
2. What term does Paul use to describe his relationship to Jesus Christ (1:1)?
3. What other term tells us much about him (1:1)?
4. Carefully think through Acts 9:1-19 where Pauls conversion is recorded. How does this help you better understand verse 1?
5. What further items in verse 5 help you picture how Paul felt about his ministry.

The Kernel of Salvation 1:2-4
6. Paul makes some important statements about the gospel in verses 2-4. List each of the important comments or statements Paul made.
7. How does the usage of the word Son differ in verses 1:3-4?
8. What do we know about who Paul was writing to (see verse 7)? List at least three things about the recipients of this letter.
9. Do you think Paul was trying to include the whole church at Rome or just part of it? Why?
10. Scan through verses 1:8-13 and describe Pauls attitude toward the Roman Christians. Make sure you put which verse is the source of your idea.
11. Would you say Paul shows a spirit of superiority? If that does not describe Pauls relationship with the Roman Christians, then write down which relationship best describes it? (examples: master-slave, friend-friend, etc.)
12. Why does Paul want to visit them (1:8-15)?
13. What obligation does Paul sense (1:14)? Where did he get that?
14. What is Paul not ashamed of (16)? Are some people afraid of it?
15. Why do you think Paul adds that phrase power of God to verse 16?
16. Who can be saved (16)?
17. In those days, who did the word Greek refer to?
18. What is revealed in the gospel (17)? What might this mean?
19. What is at least one prime characteristic of the righteous man (17)? Is this true for the Old Testament too?
