Obtaining Hope from Depression

Obtaining Hope from Depression is part 2 of 12 that helps us obtain hope for depression that a person might face in his or her life. 'Adopting God's Hope, Overcoming Depression' is the ninth lesson in a series on "Reaching Beyond Mediocrity."

This series, Reaching Beyond Mediocrity, started on the message of hope. Hope is what those who are facing depression need, not a mantra of "you can't change anything." "Your chemistry controls your life." This conclusion from many experts, though they will not say it so blatantly, is not true because of the grace that He brings into people's lives.

Depression is not an attack that came only on our modern society. Jesus' promises were true for those in the early Christian church too. Because we are genuine believers, we have God's Spirit producing many wonderful effects from life into our souls which effect our whole beings. The Lord gave us new life and growth, hope and faith grows from this life.

Birth-hopeJesus said, "If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them" (John 13:17). There is an essential goodness that derives from doing what God requests. This grace fortunately can start even in the middle of a shroud of darkness. Even in the worst time of our live, if we would but turn to the Lord, He will begin to make things right.

Testimony on how a person escaped depression and suicide

A person testified how one Saturday morning she was praying and suddenly a person's name from work, Agnes, came to her mind. So she prayed for her and made note of it. Although she did not know Agnes well, she sat down with her during lunch at work on Monday and started mentioning how God put her name on her heart. Agnes, rather stunned, asked, "When that was?"

After explaining it was Saturday morning at such and such a time, Agnes explained that she was contemplating suicide just at that time. She was thinking of ending everything right then. The sister wisely went on and shared the gospel with Agnes. Agnes believed the Lord right there and upon that belief, Agnes experienced a total transformation because of forgiveness and the grace found in Christ Jesus.

Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed!

We do not need to make ourselves good before reaching out to God. The Lord reaches toward us in our very worst of times. Hopefully, we are not so stubborn and distracted that we do not earlier hear His message, but even if it is in the midst of our worst times, such as now, call upon God's help for your life.

"For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed. For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call upon Him; for "WHOEVER WILL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED" (Romans 10:11-13).
