Is self-realization good for a healthy and balanced life? Learn here about Jesus' special view of self-realization.
Are you a bit confused about the biblical perspective of self-realization, the fulfillment of one’s own potential? Jesus does a great job defining this, though it counters the world and Eastern mystics. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus begins the beatitudes by stating the blessings of the one who is poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3).
When we fully realize who we are, we are broken before God’s holiness due to our wayward thoughts and actions; we finally understand how we have rebelled against God and become most desirous to see the light of God’s mercy through forgiving us through Jesus Christ.

Biblical self-realization enables us to live humbly before a great God, seeing Him accomplish His work through our lives, leaving us with praise for our great God. The world’s viewpoint of self-realization is based on gaining a viewpoint of self (there are many different variations) apart from true reality as revealed by God’s Word, thus attempting to accomplish things without God, further stripping God of His proper honor. Rebellious pride and deception are dug one layer deeper in one’s soul.“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.” Romans 11:36
