Bible Study Questions (Mark 10:29-30)

29 Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, 30 but that he shall receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.” (NASB used)

The Significance (Mark 10:29)

1. Who gave this promise in verses 29-30? Why do you think Jesus adds the word “truly” in this promise (29)?

2. In verse 29 Mark lists the various situations of those who can gain Jesus’ promise. What are they?

3. What does it mean to leave a house (29)?

4. What does it mean to leave a brother, sister, mother, father or children (29)?

5. Why would leaving a farm be so difficult (29)?

6. Match the following situations with one of the situations above:

8. Give an instance when you had to do something “for Jesus’ sake.”

16. Name three of the most special blessings you expect to happen when you meet up with Him in heaven.

17. Where is Jesus now? What has He suffered? What was He rewarded?

18. The reason Jesus gave this promise was to encourage His disciples to make the right decisions even under threat. He was building up their commitment to Him and the gospel. Below are several commitment statements that can be strengthened by stating them and aligning our hearts with their deeper values. Carefully read through each one. Which one means most to you right now? Why?

    • I love Jesus more than all.
    • I will love You even if I suffer loss.
    • Those things on earth are temporary.
    • I will love you to death as necessary.
    • My real home is with You in eternity.
