Running the Race: Overcoming Sexual Lusts banner

By Paul J. Bucknell

Races are fun to watch and join in if you are in shape! But what happens when you are not in good shape and are found to be in a race?!

By default we are in a race for sexual purity. God, our family and the world are our onlookers. Victory means life, but stepping out of the race means death. The consequences are eternal.

The image of a race helps
us in several ways:
- The participation
- The urgency
- The course
- The difficulties
- The victory
One of the first facts we must understand is that the race is not yet over. No matter how many mistakes we have made or how many people's lives we have fouled up, we can step back into that race and go on. There are two things that disqualify us from winning this race:
  • 1) Death - no more running
  • 2) Persistent refusal to run

So if you can read this, then you can start running again in that race which God has signed you up for - a race for sexual purity. You can run it. You can win it. You might be ashamed of your past like I am. That is unchangeable. But we need not be ashamed of the future! God has made a way for you and I to run steady to the end.
