Helps the believer understand the glorious power of God and how it operates so differently than what we are most familiar with.
God wants to reveal His glorious person. This is the theme here. God’s wisdom, love and now His power. In each case, it is all about learning what God is really like and properly responding to Him. The first part of Ephesians is all about God’s salvation. God’s wisdom in the way He saved a great number of people is seen. Then we get to look at God’s love. It is awesome. Why would He take slaves and foreigners to be His own children share His riches with them forever and ever? God’s love influences us.
God is revealing more and more of His power in such a way that we can properly respond to Him. If God, showed too much of His power, then it might affect His other plans. Everything God does is carefully timed. All aspects of His plans are perfectly calculated.

Ephesians 3:20-21 is part of a longer prayer that begins in 3:14. Read the whole text aloud. Although this is one prayer, it has two parts. How are the two parts of the prayer (14-19) and (20-21) different?
Ephesians 3:20-21 is quite different from the previous prayer. How would you describe this kind of prayer? Have you ever prayed this way before. Why or why not?
What two words are repeated in these two verses (once in 3:20 and once in 3:21)?
The word ‘power’ had been used in Ephesians five times up this point describing God’s greatness. Find them and read them aloud. (The word ‘is able to” comes from the same root word for power but this cannot be seen in the English - “who has power to”).
This Greek word for ‘power’ is dunamis. Can you think of any English words that have come from this Greek word relating to power?
Where have you seen the greatest works of power? Share and explain.
Explain words does Paul use to describe this power in Ephesians 3:20?
Let us move on and look at Ephesians 3:21. What does it say should go to Him (God)? What does this word mean?
How are the words power and glory related? (Advanced question).
What are the two places that God is said to reveal His glory (Ephesians 3:21)?
What is the church? (The Greek word ekklesia literally means ‘congregation’ or ‘assembly’).
Give one or two ways God’s glory is shown in the church.
Why do you think He mentioned these two places and not the creation? (advanced)
We are to live for God’s praise. Write down the major things you are doing in your life through the day. Ask yourself:
(1) Are you doing these things for God’s glory?
