Articles on the Book of Titus The churches that are growing are mission churches. They focus their energies on developing God's kingdom as a whole. They have strategically involved themselves in starting new churches. This is the same excitement we find in the Book of Acts. This doesn't mean, however, that the churches that they are planting are not facing crises. These infant churches are the front line of God's kingdom and the injuries are there to prove it. Where the gospel goes forth in power, there the evil one will do his worst to bash God's growing kingdom. The Book of Titus helps us understand how to handle the difficulties new churches face, whether it has to do with leadership weakness, doctrine, false doctrine or other internal struggles. The Book of Titus: Introduction & overview Many of the problems facing churches today are not from the pressures on the outside but the unresolved struggles inside. Watch Paul the Apostle as he tries to encourage leadership to rightly deal with these problems without being overbearing. Throughout this study, we will see the importance of the local church along with its leadership and organization. While The Book of Titus does not give us a comprehensive view of ecclesiology (i.e. study of the church), it does give us, those in the war trenches, that much needed encouragement to continue on building up the church of God.

Titus 1:5-9 "Transformed by Godly Standards" Paul writes to deliberately shape God’s people to look more and more like the bride of Christ. Paul here in verses 1:5-9 mentions two ways to get the church to where she should be. They are significant steps. They are exactly the prescription that can be written for the church in our modern society today. Why? We first of all see a lack of commitment among God’s people the lack of standards among God's people. Without proper guidelines and protection, they face the exact problems that we now see in the Book of Titus as it describes the church scene in Crete. Paul is concerned with those whose profession and deeds do not match. Early on in chapter two we will see four categories: Older men, older women, young women and young men. This includes all of the believers. Each has a special description for their stage in life. This confirms again that God wants everyone involved in what He is doing.

Titus 3:9-15 "Connected & Caring" The health of the different individual cells comprises the strength of the whole. If we only wanted to form a few super cells, the body would not be able to rightly function and die. The cell’s strength come from their neighboring and differentiating cells. Paul cared for the health and strength of the church, the body of Christ. Even though this seems and is mystical in a sense, it is very real. This is a major truth that needs to shape and influence how we think about our participation in the local church. Paul himself was shaped by it and ended up in Crete and elsewhere building up the body of Christ. We all have a call to bettering one another.
